Artists from Across the Country Explore Political Beliefs, Global Concerns, and Private Visions

Peter Jones, print maker, photographer and director of the Peter Jones Studio & Gallery, has chosen works from artists across the country for Assume Nothing, the upcoming National Juried Art Event at Union Street Gallery in Chicago Heights.

Artists working in a broad range of media, styles and formats investigate the subtleties of the theme, filtered through personal experience and political beliefs, global concerns and private visions.

The intentional ambiguity of the title has given artists and juror alike the opportunity to search for surprising links and tangents, and to create an exhibit of unexpected depth and visual pleasure.

The exhibit runs from September 11 through October 9, 2009, with a free opening reception on September 11, 6-9pm. On Friday, October 9 from 6-9pm there is a closing reception and Special Event with “Union Street Gallery: A Poetry Series” open mic from 6:30-7pm followed by Luis Valadez, poet.

From Peter Jones, Juror, "I would like to thank the Union Street Gallery and the participating artists of "Assume Nothing" for the opportunity to be the sole judge to jury this exhibit. While bringing as much professional expertise to the responsibility of deciding what works to include, I also used "A kid in a candy store" approach. I found that I was drawn immediately to include some works for their visual impact. Others seemed to grow on me as I sifted through the jpegs and slides. I hope that my vision of the submissions to "Assume Nothing" is an exciting one for all."
