Erica Lessie
Cellist and Studio Artist
Artist Statement
I am drawn to objects, either natural or man-made, with high contrast in texture or color, and I incorporate this aesthetic into my work. I favor simple geometric shapes and patterns and I am inspired by the jewelry and architecture of the early Art Moderne. My pieces are informed by Aboriginal, Eastern European, Inuit, North African, and South East Asian cultures.
While diverse in style and function, all of my creations can be considered objects of personal adornment. When possible I like to incorporate movement into my pieces. I use a variety of material in my work including resin, paper, metal, wood, and fabric.
