Studio Artist

Kimberly J. Watts

  a self taught artist with exhibited visual work at various galleries and public spaces in the Chicagoland area, such as Prairie State Christopher Art Gallery, Dusable Museum, and Union Street Gallery. Her works include mixed media, glass, mosaic, sculpture and paintings. Her public art features mosaic murals for the Future Foundation in Ford Heights, IL and Rosa Parks Middle School in Harvey, IL. Watts teaches in the suburban public schools system and for numerous arts organizations throughout the south suburbs while taking an active role in community organizations.  

Projects

 “The Future,” Mosaic Mural, Future Foundation in Ford Heights, Illinois, 7th through 12th graders from various schools around the south suburban area learned how to plan, design and create mosaics for the foundation.  These students had no prior mosaic experience and created a stunning art project.

Painting Picasso Style, Rosa L. Parks Middle School, Dixmoor, IL and the Country Club Hills Park District Country Club Hills, IL. and the Robbins Public Library District. Students created “self-portraits” painting Picasso style. Students learned how to design, sketch, paint with lots of color and incorporate various other items in their work.

Watts continue to teach mosaic classes and workshops on the materials and techniques. Participants include beginners and advance students, and avid art appreciators. Watts will continue to teach art this fall at the Glenwood School for Boys in Glenwood, IL.  

Recent Exhibitions

The Dells – world known for their music, Rock & Roll, Emmy and Grammy Awards. The Dells Anthology Exhibit was curated by Kimberly Watts and her partner (Darlene Randall), the exhibit was displayed at the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago, IL.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation National Leadership Awards. The Kellogg Foundation Awards Program was established in 2004 to recognize, celebrate, and promote outstanding philanthropic and nonprofit leadership in communities of color. Watts was one of five artist selected and commissioned to create the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Logo in stain glass. The commissioned piece was then presented to the 2007 award recipient in Seattle Washington.
