Union Street Gallery is seeking exhibit proposals for consideration in 2019. As you consider exhibition ideas, think about the mission of Union Street Gallery. We hope to provide a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. By providing variety, our exhibits are more experiential and educational. Our exhibits are not motivated by sales, but by the unique opportunities for art experiences we can bring to Chicago Heights. Our visitors are from all ages and backgrounds.

Please send a Word document or PDF that addresses the topics and questions list below. Supporting images welcome if they help illustrate your vision – PDF preferred. Possible curators and/or jurors are part of the questions, but not required. Well thought out ideas can be paired with jurors and/or curators through the gallery. The gallery may require inexperienced jurors and/or curators to work with someone else. For our purposes, jurors select the work included in an exhibit. Curators design exhibits and/or deal with the placement of artwork in the gallery. Your proposals may include one person for both tasks, just one, or none of those tasks. We are open to all proposals, but expect proposals for:

·      Small group exhibitions submitted by participating artist(s) and/or a curator

·      Juried exhibition ideas

o   Submitted by a possible curator/juror

o   Submitted as an interesting idea without a possible curator/juror

Proposals should address the following topics and questions:

·      Working Exhibit Title

o   Working blurb about the exhibit – this would be used for the call

·      How will this show benefit Union Street Gallery and the gallery’s regular audience?

·      Is this a juried exhibit?

·      Curator(s) and/or Juror(s)

o   Provide their names and qualifications in narrative form, or provide a web link

o   Explain why they are the best fit

·      Is there a preferable time of year for this exhibit?

·      We have two floors of gallery space. If you have been to the space, would this be best for the first floor, second floor, or both? If you have not, how many works of art would you expect to be included?

Submit PDFs and/or Word documents to exhibitions@unionstreetgallery.org by April 28, 2018. Use the subject line “Exhibition Proposal 2019” for your email. We will not respond to every proposal. You will only hear back if your exhibition has been selected to move forward, or we are interested in working with the idea with some revisions. An exhibition committee will be working on the ideas. Gallery attendants answering the phones will not have any knowledge or information about your exhibition proposals.
